Recommended Places to Visit Scenic Spots for Photography

In recent years, a popular spot has emerged where visitors can capture both Mount Fuji and the Chureito Pagoda in one shot. However, it's worth noting that this spot is not frequented by many Japanese tourists. The Chureito Pagoda is a small tower, and while it makes for a beautiful photograph, climbing the many stairs and dealing with crowded decks might not be the best experience.

For those looking to photograph Mount Fuji, the lakeside parks offer a more relaxed and scenic option:


  • Accessing this park by car can be challenging, so it’s recommended to take a taxi or rent a bicycle. Cycling around the lake is a pleasant experience.

  • This park is easily accessible by car and offers spacious grounds, making it an excellent spot for taking in the views.

This restaurant is housed in a 150-year-old traditional Japanese house that has been renovated to welcome visitors from around the world. Historically, the area around Kawaguchiko had many "oshi" inns, which provided lodging and meals for pilgrims aiming to climb Mount Fuji. While most of these inns have disappeared, Kominka Nakamura preserves this cultural heritage and offers delicious meals.

The menu is fully vegan, catering to all dietary preferences without compromising on traditional Japanese flavors. Japanese cuisine often uses bonito broth, making it challenging to find truly vegan options, but Kominka Nakamura ensures all meals are vegan-friendly. The dishes are not only delicious but also beautifully presented.

Kawaguchiko is famous for “houtou,” a hearty noodle dish similar to udon. Historically, rice was scarce in the area due to volcanic ash from Mount Fuji and the steep terrain, so locals turned to wheat flour and vegetables, resulting in the creation of houtou.

While houtou is a humble, traditional dish, Houtou Kurou Funari is renowned for its exceptional quality. The abalone houtou is particularly recommended. Although there might be a wait, you can get a ticket to manage the queue efficiently. Enjoying houtou with a view of Mount Fuji is an unforgettable experience.

Cafe and General Store gris


This café is located in a quiet area of Kawaguchiko. Although it’s not heavily frequented, its delicious cakes make it a popular spot on weekends. My personal recommendation is the banana pie. Even if you’re not particularly fond of bananas, this pie might just change your mind!

Yamanashi Prefecture, where Kawaguchiko is located, is famous for its delicious fruits. Gris offers delightful fruit parfaits that vary by season. If you visit during peach season (late June to September), you’re in for a treat. Their peach parfait is a must-try. Be sure to go with an empty stomach to fully enjoy the experience.
